We are going to be creating the most EPIC game to teach mathematics in a fun, exciting, and understandable way. Below is a list of questions that may answer some of your many questions.
Q: What will that take, and what skills and talents do I have that will be important for this project?
A: It takes a LOT of work to make a game: most successful games takes several years with thousands of hours of work. It requires programmers, sure, but for EPIC MATH we'll also need composers, artists, sound engineers, designers, writers, testers, mathematicians, project managers, and people who know how to have fun! Pretty much, we need YOU.
Q: When does the project begin?
A: In order to make this a reality, people need to start learning about the engine NOW. Then, during the summer we'll discuss more of what is technically required, and in September we'll jump in to full, active development mode.
Q: What game engine will we be using?
A: We will be using the Godot 4 game engine. It's free, and can be downloaded from the Godot Engine website.
Q: How do I learn how to use the Godot Engine?
A: I recommend watching a great tutorial, "The ultimate introduction to Godot 4". You'll want to follow along, doing everything in Godot yourself. The best way to accomplish this is in the following steps:
Q: What's the timeline?
A: During January through April of 2025, those interested in helping can be working on the tutorial listed above. If you have questions, feel free to post them on the FORUM. Then, come summer, we'll do a weekly Zoom meeting to go over questions that you may have, get everyone familiar with remote work, and finally in September we'll start our weekly class where we'll be putting everything together!
Q: Will there be a big kick-off meeting to go over the vision of what we're trying to accomplish?
A: You bet!! The official kick-off meeting will be in September, but hopefully people will be working on their contributions before then (composing songs, developing art assets, learning Godot programming, etc.) before then.
Q: How do I get access to the Forum?
A: This link goes to the forum. E-mail Mr. Siebach at epic_math@jacobsiebach.com once you've signed up with your name (so he can verify who you are) and he will give you access to the forum.
I look forward to seeing you soon! I hope that you get as excited about this project as I am.
